About Lipparella

LIPPARELLA was founded in 2008 with an ambition to develop a contemporary repertoire for baroque instruments and counter tenor. New collaborations have continuously been initiated and composers show a growing interest in challenging the relations between the timbre of the baroque instruments and a musical language of our own time.

During the last years, Lipparella has realised a number of projects focusing on the relation between music, text and space, where new musical works are staged in an art form between concert and musical drama. In these contexts, the ensemble has worked together with stage directors such as Johan Petri, Karl Dunér and Jörgen Dahlqvist, a number of composers as well as light designers, set designers and librettists.

In 2018 the ensemble has initiated a new concept; Again & Again, where a contemporary musical work is performed twice during the same concert. In these concerts invited guests; composers, poets, filmmakers, critiques and translators have given the audience extended perspectives that are connected to the musical content in different ways, thus helping to illuminate new aspects for the audience in the second listening.

In addition to contemporary works, Lipparella also performs early music in different settings.

The extensive collaboration between the ensemble and the composer Kent Olofsson has led to a complete CD recording of the work Champs d’étoiles in 2017 for the label dB Productions.

MIKAEL BELLINI is one of the principal countertenors in Scandinavia. He has a broad repertoire that spans from renaissance to 21st century. Mikael is one of the members in the vocal ensemble Lamentabile Consort. Mikael’s specific interest for contemporary music has resulted in several composers having written pieces directly for him. He is also in demand as an opera singer, much appreciated for his beautiful and flexible voice and for his acting abilities. There are recordings from a number of companies with both baroque and contemporary music. Mikael is also working as a piano technician and voice pedagogue.

ANNA LINDAL  was during a long time playing in the string trio Trio des Lyres, specialized in mixed programs with older music on original instruments and contemporary repertoire. Between 1983-2001 she was concertmaster in the Stockholm Philharmonic and 2002-2006 Visiting Professor of violin at the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Anna is now a freelancing musician and has collaborated with several composers and played in chamber ensembles and ensembles with free improvisation. She is part of many interdisciplinary projects in collaboration with artists, authors, filmmakers and choreographers.

KERSTIN FRÖDIN is an internationally recognized recorder player and baroque and classical oboist active with a number of chamber music ensembles. She is frequently hired for orchestra and opera productions as well as a soloist in both the baroque and classical repertoire. In addition to the early music repertoire, Frödin performs contemporary experimental art music. Frödin is a Doctoral student in musical performance at Luleå University of Technology and Piteå School of Music, where she runs a research project on movement, communication and performance practice in contemporary music.

LOUISE AGNANI is a multi-facetted musician who besides playing the viola da gamba also performs on baroque and modern cello. She has a position in Uppsala Chamber Orchestra and has worked with most Swedish symphony and baroque orchestras. As a viola da gamba player Louise has for instance participated in performances of baroque operas in Sweden and in recordings such as Ensemble Villancico (Caprice 2002) and Mårten Falk and El Escorial (dB Productions 2010). Louise has given several first performances of new solo works for viola da gamba. The viol is close to her heart and its special sound makes it an exciting instrument within the contemporary chamber music.

PETER SÖDERBERG has a background as a guitarist and improviser. As a lute player, he is since many years a profile within both early and contemporary music. Many composers have composed solo works for Peter, some of them recorded on Phono Suecia CD “Liuto con forza” (2010). Since 2010, Peter has collaborated with Erik Peters in projects involving instruments and live electronics.

Besides his concert performances Peter also participates in different theatre, dance and literature contexts. He has made numerous recordings and is also active as a writer in the Swedish contemporary music magazine “Nutida Musik”.
